Nutrition coach: “What are your goals?”
Nutrition client: “I want to loose body fat and gain lean muscle”
Nutrition coach: “Great! We can make that happen if you do the following……”
Nutrition client: “Sounds good! I’m in!”
1 month later…. You don’t see the results you’d hoped for… you quit, go back to your old ways, and convince yourself that this is just how you were meant to be. Being that picture of health and fitness you’ve dreamed of just isn’t in the cards for you.
Does this sound familiar? Well I think it’s time we take a step back and asses what it is we are REALLY after when we reach out to a nutrition coach.
Some people want accountability, others education, and some just want someone to tell them exactly what to do so they don’t have to think about it. But we all really want the same thing:
How can I look and feel good about myself without loosing the ability to enjoy my life?
This is really the goal of a nutrition coach. First it’s to find out what the persons life, stress, and physical activity is like on a day to day basis. This will allow us to give that client a realistic expectation and goals to reach for.
Slow, steady progress is always the goal when it comes to weight loss someone can keep off. This slow steady progress means the client is adjusting to the new lifestyle of eating habits gradually and will be able to maintain this type of change for the rest of their life. That’s the REAL GOAL!!!! A lifestyle change.
The real goal is NOT a body fat percentage, or a certain amount of muscle. The goal is to find a lifestyle our clients can maintain forever while slowly reaching their aesthetic goals over time. This is not a fast process and takes time.
It’s important to always remember when starting a journey with your nutrition coach what the real goal is
How can I slowly change my eating habits that got me to where I am now and create a healthy lifestyle that will last forever.
This is where a coach can really help. We have an outside perspective that challenges our clients to be just 1% better than yesterday. Day to day, week to week, month to month, we slowly tweak, mold, and adjust plans to fit where that client is RIGHT NOW in the process. This is a constant communication, trust building, hard talk, tears, smiles, hugs, and high fives journey our clients go on with us.
Food is deep routed in our brains and controls emotions both good and bad. It’s our job as nutrition coaches to re shape this emotional roller coaster we go on with food everyday. So come on this journey with us if you’re ready, but know it’s not a quick fix and be ready for a ride!
